Until we arrive, keep reading to learn why this kind of problem can happen.
Thermostat Settings
First, let’s start with the easiest thing to tackle. Sometimes, the problem is more of a communication error than it is a distinct problem with your AC’s components. Check your thermostat and ensure that it’s not just set on “fan mode.”
If it is, switch it over to “cooling mode” and see if that does the trick. It might be as simple as conveying to your air conditioner that it’s time to turn on. This can happen if it’s been a long time since you turned the system on, or if you’ve been away for a while.
A Refrigerant Leak
Air conditioners rely on refrigerant to cool spaces down. Therefore, if your air conditioner is only able to produce lukewarm air, it could be from the fact that it’s been leaking refrigerant for a while. Without refrigerant, the system can’t remove heat from the air in your home and it won’t be able to reduce the temperature at all.
Clogged Air Filter
Clogged air filters can cause lots of problems. For starters, they can dirty up the coils (which we’ll get into below) but they’ll also inhibit the flow of air. This is important because your air conditioner needs consistent access to the warm air from your house as it cools things down.
If your filter gets clogged up, your air conditioner might accidentally cool the air inside of it too much, while leaving the air in the rest of your home warm and uncomfortable. This can even cause ice to form, which is never a good sign.
Luckily, you can clean the air filter on your own and experiment to see if this solves the problem.
Broken Compressor
Unfortunately, the cause of your lukewarm air issues could be related to a failed compressor. This is one of the worst-case scenarios since your compressor is the most expensive and comprehensive component of your whole air conditioner. But we can’t know for sure unless we take a look at the system ourselves.
Dirty Coils, Duct Leaks, and More
The truth is that many different things cause lukewarm air to come from your vents. Coils could be dirty and having trouble accessing the air in your home. Your air ducts could even be leaking all the cool air into places where you can’t feel it.
